Elderberry has a long tradition in our gardens. Whenever you are looking for a suitable bush, you should shortlist the elder.
White flowers, black berries
Already the optical of the elder is perfect. The bush can be kept small and compact by pruning. But it can also grow up to 2.5 meters high. In spring it surprises with wonderful white flowers that smell good. The typical black elderberries then develop from this. Elderberry needs a place in the sun, but he also likes penumbra. If it is regularly fertilized with mature compost and poured well, then it will develop splendidly.
Process flowers and berries
One can process the berries as well as the flowers from the elderberry. The flowers can be prepared in batter in a pan, for example, and the crispy elderflowers can then be nibbled. The berries can be made into juice and wine, processed into jam and jelly and even cough syrup can be extracted from it. They are rich in potassium and vitamins A, B and C. The berries even have a healing effect. For example, they have a blood purifying, hemostatic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, expectorant and antifungal effect. The berries can therefore be used for many diseases.
